Bears Use Dominating Run Game To Blow Out Dermott

DERMOTT - What little hope the Dermott Rams had of upseting Woodlawn was quickly extinguished last Friday night as the Bears used a 32-point first quarter enroute to a 54-6 romp at Sportman's Field in Dermott.Woodlawn improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in South Conference play with the win while Dermott fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in league action. The win clinched a playoff berth for the Bears.The fired-up Rams seemed anxious to make a statement early on when they won the coin toss and elected to receive. A 24yard run by Allen Smith on the first play from scrimmage only added to that momentum, but two plays later the Bears' Dakota Campbell pounced on a loose football at the Woodlawn 45.Ethan Adair picked up nine yards on the Bears' first offensive snap of the game, and on the next play quarterback Aden Moore scorched the Rams with a 46-yard run into the end zone. Moore ran in the conversion as well to give the Bears an 8-0 lead with 9:51 left.That would be the first of four touchdowns for Woodlawn in the opening period.Dermott lost 3 yards on a fourth-down play it owns 45, giving Woodlawn the ball at the Rams' 45. Garrett Weatherford found the edge on the next play and raced 45 yards for the score. Adair tacked on the two-pointer to make it 16-0 with 7:02 left in the first.Another fourth-down stop on the Rams' ensuing series gave the Bears' possession at their own 45 yard line. Two recovered fumbles then left Woodlawn facing third-and-26, but Adair ripped off a 28-yard run down to the Dermott 23 to keep the drive alive. Two plays later Adair streaked in with a four-yard run and Ethan Oliver bulled in for the conversion to put the Bears up 24-0 with 2:53 still left in the opening frame. Dermott then lost the handle on high pooch kick by Oliver one the ensuing kickoff, and Moore recovered at the Rams' 33.
