10  YEARS  AGOJUNE  3,  2015The Cleveland County Quorum Court heard about a possible regional jail facility that the county could be part of, while Sheriff Jack Rodgers told the court that the existing county jail will soon need some renovations in order to keep it open. County Judge Gary Spears said the proposed regional jail facility would be located near Wilmar in Drew County. Sheriff Rodgers said he could not guarantee he would use the regional jail facility until he had some questions answered, the most pressing of which is how much it would cost the county.Kelly Holt, a teacher at Rison High School, was appointed by the Rison City Council to fill the unexpired term of former alderman Jimmy Bowlin, who recently resigned from the position. Also, the council approved two resolutions that could pave the way for up to $331,000 in grant money to install new high-tech water meters throughout the city.For the fifth consecutive month, Cleveland County has seen improvement in its balance for the county general fund when compared to the balance at the same time the previous year. County general is currently $108,319.52 ahead of where it was at the same time last year. County treasurer Jack Hopson had no explanation for the improvement.20  YEARS  AGOJUNE  1,  2005A Jefferson County man was arrested for allegedly driving his vehicle into the doorway of six convenience stores, including three in Cleveland County, in order to rob the businesses last week.The Highway 63 Water Association and a local plumber, Freddie Pierce, will be assisting the Cleveland County Rural Water Association on an interim basis, as the association begins the search for an entire new staff following three resignations.
