Cleveland County Sheriff Jack Rodgers has announced the first of a series of public meetings to inform the public about the proposed sales taxes supporting construction and maintenance/operations of a new county jail. The meetings will be held at Rison and Kingsland. Voters will decide the fate of the two tax questions during the general election on November 8.
Cleveland County Fair week officially kicked off this past Saturday morning with the running of the "Race to the Fair 5K Run/Walk. There were 47 participants registered for the event this year.
Overall feedback from the first-ever Hwy. 79-Hwy. 63 Junk Hunt Loop was positive. Although overall traffic may not have been as strong as the Hwy. 35 Junk Hunt in the spring, organizers of the event received very positive reports from both vendors and shoppers.
At next Tuesday's school board elections in the county, new voting equipment, purchased with a $251,000 grant, will be used for the first time.

A private ambulance company - EASI - has agreed to cover ambulance calls in Cleveland County after the resignations of all four full-time employees of the county-run Cleveland County Ambulance Service became effective at midnight Monday. Clerk Sharon Gray said she received the letter of resignations last week after the county Quorum Court took no action on a proposed work schedule change for the full-time ambulance workers and a proposed pay increase for part-time paramedics and EMTs.
In the only contested school board race in Cleveland County on Tuesday, Mark Palazzi captured the Zone 7 seat on the Cleveland County School Board, defeating incumbent Jeffie Hyatt.
At Monday night's meeting of the Kingsland City Council, questions were raised by council members concerning the dollar amount on some city purchases and the number of cell phones for the city.
