Letter to the Editor: What To Expect During Rison Water Line Replacement Project

Body

To City of Rison Water Users,

Please be advised that the Contractor (NLS Construction, LLC} has mobilized to the City of Rison, AR. to start the water line replacement project. Work has commenced around the areas of Washington Street, Rice Street, Short Rice Street, Lincoln Street, Carver Street, Center Street, moving south on Oak Street, and then turning down Sadler Street as of June 16, 2025.

This Water Line Replacement Project has come to fruition to replace many of the 105-year-old iron lines that have created a reactive maintenance issue rather than a proactive maintenance program due to the degradation of the iron lines and continual line repairs and loss of water.

NLS Construction, LLC will be moving throughout the City of Rison, AR. replacing the above mention iron main lines with PVC main lines and Poly Services for the next six (6) months to one (1) year.

What Can Be Expected as A Customer and The Needs of Each Customer:

• Possibility when working in your area of short-term discolored water or air in the lines after the contractor has installed the new water mains, the new lines are pressure tested, the new lines are disinfected, and the new mains will be connected to each residential customer's service meter. (This can be resolved if this occurs by simply flushing the system by opening a water source within the residence to flush the system).

• NLS Construction, LLC. and associated Sub-Contractors working in the streets and Right-of-Way's throughout the City of Rison, AR. (Please be careful and slow down around construction areas to protect all contractor personnel and/or avoid entering the work zones by choosing an alternate route).

The City of Rison would like to thank each of the Citizens of Rison, AR. and apologize for any inconvenience while this project is ongoing, but is all taking place for each of you so the city can continue to provide a top-quality product and the accountability that every time a spigot is turned on that there will always be quality water available with the exception of routine maintenance.

Thank you,
Joe Freyer
Director of Utilities
