King Reveals School Grades at Meeting

RISON - Superintendent Davy King informed the Cleveland County School Board during its regular monthly meeting Monday night that Rison High School has once again received a "B" on its School Report Card while Rison Elementary received a "C." The Arkansas Department of Education released the school report card grades for the 2024-25 school year in September.Each individual public school within the state is given a letter grade based on how that school performs within three areas: achievement (the percentage of students scoring at Levels 3 and 4 on the state ATLAS tests); growth (year-over-year growth on ATLAS test scores, with a specific measure for the progress of the lowest-performing students.); and readiness (measures graduation rates and readiness of students going to college, trade school or the workplace).Rison High School was one of two high schools in the Southeast Arkansas region to receive a "B" on its report card. King pointed out that this was the second year for Rison High School to receive a B.Rison Elementary, meanwhile, received a "C" letter grade, which was lower than the "A" grade a simulation conducted earlier this year predicted the school might receive.King explained that the difference between the projected grade and the actual grade was that the school did not show the same growth in test scores as it did the previous year. He said once a school shows growth one year, the grading criteria used by the state expects that school to continue to show the same growth rate.Board member Nick Bennett pointed out that it would be difficult to continue to show the same growth rate from year-to-year since the margin needing improvement would decline each year.Financial Procedures The school board approved two recommendations from King regarding procedures dealing with the district's finances.First, the board approved depositing the $107,201.60 from the sale of the land and bu...
