Woodlawn Accepts $1.3 Million in Partnership Money

Body

The Woodlawn School District has officially accepted $1,290,334 in newly available state partnership funding to build a career education center at Woodlawn High School. The project was approved earlier this year but initially unfunded, while a separate cafeteria expansion received $395,326 in partnership money.

Voters passed a 2-mill tax increase in May to provide matching funds for both projects. Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hancock said the district waited for the career center funding before moving forward.

Hancock said the cafeteria project will give the district a better idea of what current construction costs are and thereby help determine the size of the new career education, which may be used for courses in such fields as criminal justice, medical careers, childcare, marketing and business.
