The Cleveland County Quorum Court declared vacancies for County Judge Jimmy Dale Adair and District 6 Justice of the Peace Owen Rushing, who both recently passed away. Adair, a former grader operator and road foreman, was appointed in September 2025 after County Judge Jimmy Cummings’ death in August 2025, was serving out Cumming’s term to the end of the year when died on Jan. 2. Rushing, a 19-year quorum court member from Calmer, died Dec. 26. The quorum court will appoint a temporary county judge during its next regular monthly meeting Feb. 2 at the Veterans Building in Rison, while the governor will name Rushing’s replacement. Both appointees will serve until Dec. 31, 2026.
