Quorum Court Will Decide on Judge Appointee Monday

RISON - The Cleveland County Quorum Court is scheduled to appoint a new county judge during its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the Hall-Morgan Veterans Building in Rison.The quorum court approved a resolution during its last regular meeting on Jan. 5 declaring the office of county judge vacant after the passing of the late County Judge Jimmy Dale Adair on Jan. 2. State law requires a successor be named within 30 days after the vacancy is declared.The quorum court invited anyone who may be interested in the appointment to submit their name to the county clerk's office. Those names will be considered during Monday night's meeting.Whoever is selected will complete the unexpired term of the late County Judge Jimmy Cummings, which ends on Dec. 31, 2026. Adair was appointed to complete that term before his passing.Meanwhile, a replacement for the late District 6 Justice of the Peace Owen Rushing has been passed along to the governor who is responsible for naming a replacement. That term will also end on Dec. 31, 2026....
