Bears Advance to Regional Tournament

The Woodlawn Bears have qualified for the Class 2A Region 4 Tournament next week after knocking off the Ouachita Warriors, 81-55, Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the 8-2A District Tournament at Junction City. The victory put the Bears in the semifinals against the host team, the Junction City Dragons, on Thursday night. Woodlawn led by as many in the first half before Junction City rallied to tie it up by halftime. The Dragons jumped out to a 14-point lead at point in the second half before the Bears came back to cut it to a four-point margin with less than two minutes left. Junction, however, hit a 3-pointer in the final minute to essentially seal the game. Woodlawn is scheduled to play the Poyen Indians at 5:30 p.m. today at Junction City to detemine the 8-2A’s no. 3 and no. 4 seeds for next week’s regional tournament at Poyen.
