Reminder: Republican Primary is Closed

Body

John Appleget, chairman of the Cleveland County Election Commission, reminds voters that everyone wanting to vote in the Republican primary must be registered as a Republican or “optional” on their voter registration.  The Republican Party of Arkansas voted last year to make its primary election “closed,” which means only those registered as Republican or “optional” can vote in the primary. Appleget said anyone who is registered as a Democrat will need to change their voter registration to Republican or “optional” in order to vote in the Republican primary. Appleget said voters can change their affiliation by filling out a new voter registration card at the county clerk’s office on the first floor of the courthouse at Rison or complete a new voter registration from at the polling site.
