10  YEARS  AGOAPRIL  20,  2016Following a pattern experienced by most schools in the state, four of the five schools in Cleveland County saw their "letter grades" drop this year after the Arkansas Department of Education released the 2015 Performance Report Cards late last week. The report cards were based on achievement tests given during the spring semester of the 2014-15 school year. The only school in the county to see its letter grade remain the same from last year to this year was Kingsland Elementary. Kingsland had a "C" on its 2014 report card and scored another "C" for 2015. Meanwhile, Rison Elementary saw its grade fall from a "C" to a "D" and Rison High School's grade went from a "B" to a "C." Both of the schools in the Woodlawn district also saw their letter grades take a tumble, Woodlawn Elementary falling from a "C" to a "D" and the high school from a "B" to a "C."Representatives of Ark-O Holding Company, new owners of the local phone company that serves much of Cleveland County, told about 50 residents here Tuesday night that they intend to invest about $6.5 million to improve broadband internet speed across the county. About 70 people lined up early Saturday morning when the new Dollar General Store near the Hwy. 63-114 intersection at Calmer held its grand opening and ribbon-cutting. It's the second new Dollar General Store to be built in Cleveland County this year, as a larger store opened in January at the Hwy. 79-35 intersection in Rison, replacing the old Dollar General on North Main Street.20  YEARS  AGOAPRIL  26,  2006With interest being shown in local races for next month's primary election in Cleveland County, voter registration in the county has surged past 5,500, according to Clerk Sharon Gray.
