10 YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER 2, 2015 The number of students is up in every school in Cleveland County compared to last year, bucking a trend of declining enrollment that is plaguing most school districts in southeast Arkansas.The Woodlawn School board approved a bid of $36,449.55 Monday night to finish out the new quarter-mile fitness trail located behind Woodlawn Elementary. The bid includes installation of four workout stations and playground equipment. Also, the Woodlawn board could possibly reconsider an earlier decision about establishing a curfew on the high school parking lot after new information was discussed during Monday's session. It was explained to the board that establishing 'No Loitering' signs with a curfew posted from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night would give the county sheriff's department the authority to move people off the parking lot where there has been an increase of littering and some vandalism.The 'Riz'n From the Dead Zombie Run,' a new event that features a 5K run combined with obstacles and 'zombies,' is the latest addition to a growing list of events that will be held in Rison this coming Halloween.The Rison Wildcats will open their football season Friday night at Fordyce, where they will face the Redbugs in the 64th consecutive meeting of the rivals. Meanwhile, the Woodlawn Bears will open their season at home, hosting the Midland Mustangs.20 YEARS AGO AUGUST 31, 2005 A 29-year-old Rison mother, Felecia Tolefree, faces charges of attempted capital murder and concealing a birth after she allegedly put her newborn baby girl in a plastic bag before leaving the house for a college class. A man inside the house found the baby inside the garbage bag about two hours after it was born. Ambulance personnel and police officers called to the house found the 8-pound baby girl to be physically okay.
