10 YEARS AGO AUGUST 12, 2015 Local residents who are part of the in-home services provided through the Cleveland County Health Unit began to flood the Rison office with calls early this week in the wake of the Arkansas Department of Health's announcement that it would be turning over its in-home services to private providers.Superintendent Dudley Hume told the Woodlawn School Board Monday night that the district will finish the year with a 'good, healthy' budget carryover, but warned that declining enrollment may start to show up on the bottom line next year. In other business, the board deadlocked on a recommendation by Hume to put up 'no loitering' signs on the high school parking lot as a way to stop the trash that is being left behind by people loitering on the parking lot at night.The Arkansas State Highway & Transportation Department has tentatively scheduled the opening of the next section of Hwy. 530 south of Hwy. 114 and the new Hwy. 11 in Lincoln County for next Tuesday.A burn ban was issued for Cleveland County Wednesday morning, effective until further notice. The last significant rainfall for the Rison area was July 3-5, when more than 2 inches of rain was recorded. Since that time, there has been less than an inch of rain.Local groups gathered in downtown Rison Saturday to paint a wall of a business building along West Second Street as part of an ongoing effort to restore, beautify and revitalize the downtown area. It is the first painting project by volunteers. Meanwhile, at New Edinburg, citizens there removed brush and weeds from around the Stewart building on Hwy. 8 in the business district. This was the third building that has been cleaned up by the New Edinburg Community Development Group.
