10  YEARS  AGOFEBRUARY  24,  2016Voters will be deciding on the presidential nominees for the Democratic and Republican parties as well as some Arkansas Supreme Court positions when they go to the polls next Tuesday for the Preferential Primary and Non-Partisan Judicial elections. Three candidates are vying for a seat on the Kingsland City Council.Three students at Rison High School have been suspended and two adults have been banned from attending athletic events at the high school following what some people described as a melee that broke out Saturday night in the closing of the 7-2A East boys championship game between Junction City and Strong at the Rison gym. According to accounts from various people in the gym when the incident occurred, a fight between two women in the visitors' bleachers with less than three minutes remaining in the game is what sparked the scene. The fight quickly escalated into an all-out confrontation, as dozens of people spilled onto the court as the title game between the Bulldogs and Dragons was still underway. After tempers "cooled," the game resumed following about a 20-minute delay and Strong won the championship. No arrests were made and officers dismissed rumors that there were firearms involved.Katelyn Mason scored 22 points, as the Rison Lady Wildcats knocked off the fourth-ranked Junction City Lady Dragons, 50-36, for the 7-2A East Conference Tournament championship Saturday night before a packed house at the Rison gym. It was the first district tourney title for the Lady 'Cats since 1982.
