10 YEARS AGO JUNE 17, 2015 Some members of the Cleveland County School Board said they have heard positive feedback regarding the possible improvement of school facilities, including construction of a new gym, track and technology center, additional classrooms, enlarging the cafeteria, and erecting an indoor facility that could be used by all athletics and the band.Kingsland city marshal Ronnie Smith once again asked the town council about the possibility of making arrests for unpaid fines, but no formal decision was ever made during Monday night's regular monthly meeting of the council. Smith had asked the council in May if they wanted him to begin making arrests of people with unpaid fines, since he was having problems with getting those fines paid. Smith said the city has about $80,000 in unpaid fines on the books.20 YEARS AGO JUNE 15, 2005 Sally Lybrand, 20, of Rison, will be competing in the Miss Arkansas pageant beginning Wednesday at Hot Springs.The Highway 63 Water Association's newest water treatment plant at Pansy, a $650,000 project, is expected to become operational today. This will give the association treatment plants at four of its five water wells. The association, headquartered at Woodlawn, has about 2,800 customers in a five-county area.The four new classrooms being built inside the Rison High School assembly hall could be completed by early August. The $125,900 project for the additional classrooms was prompted after the school board voted earlier this year to consolidate the Kingsland and Rison high schools at the Rison campus.The City of Rison will get bids from other engineering firms regarding the scheduled water and sewer system extension along Highway 79 North.
