10  YEARS  AGOMARCH  16,  2016Heavy rain over a six-day period last week closed schools, flooded state highways and left the Cleveland County Road Dept. with a massive repair effort that Judge Gary Spears said could take a month to complete. Spears said the reports of rainfall totals he heard about from the six-day period ranged from about 9 inches to almost 14 inches. He said he measured a total of about 13.5 inches at his home at New Edinburg. Damage to roads was significant enough that Governor Asa Hutchinson added Cleveland County to his disaster declaration on Friday. About 50 roads were damaged in some form or fashion by the floodwaters.Two students at Rison High School, ages 14 and 15, were arrested in Arkadelphia Monday afternoon after stealing a substitute teacher's car from the R.H.S. parking lot earlier that day. Rison police chief Josh Bolland said the two juveniles were arrested by the Arkadelphia Police Dept. after information gleaned from an investigation into the theft revealed that the two youths were driving to Arkadelphia. Both suspects were transported back to Rison to be interviewed and were taken to the White River Juvenile Detention Center in Batesville. Bolland said both boys were charged with felony theft of property and are scheduled to appear before Judge David Talley today.Voters in Kingsland's Ward I will be deciding between Sharon Crosby and Tleatha "Tootie" Spencer for the position on Kingsland's city council in the Democratic primary runoff election next Tuesday.While the Woodlawn School Board voiced support for a new all-sports indoor training facility, it voted to table a decision on a bid for the project until a few more details can be ironed out. A bid of $270,840 was submitted to construct a 60 foot by 75 foot by 20-foot tall steel building that would be used as a weight room and indoor practice facility for both boys and girls.The Ris...
