10 YEARS AGOMARCH 3, 2016Cleveland County voters selected Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas over New York businessman Donald Trump in the Republican primary, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of New York over Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont in the Democratic primary in Tuesday's preferential election for president. In the county there was an overall voter turnout of 43 percent. Of the 2,045 votes cast in the county, 72 percent were cast in the Republican primary and 27 percent in the Democratic primary. Across Arkansas, Trump edged Cruz, while Clinton more than doubled the votes of Sanders.There will be a runoff election on March 22 between challenger Tleatha "Tootie" Spencer and incumbent Sharon Crosby for the Ward 1, Position 1 seat on the Kingsland City Council, following results from Tuesday's election. The other candidate in the three-way race was Helen Browning. All three candidates ran as Democrats, which meant those who wanted to vote in the Republican presidential primary were unable to vote in the Kingsland city council race. Only 17 votes were cast in the city council race.After inquiries from two aldermen during last Thursday's meeting of the Kingsland City Council, the city will formally file police reports on some city property that has come up missing in recent weeks. Meanwhile, after going into executive session, the council decided to table an issue concerning "unauthorized children" being allowed in city hall outside regular business hours after such a scenario was reported involving a city employee.The first-ever Historic Hwy. 35 Junk Hunt, a series of rummage sales along a 120-mile route from Benton to Dermott through Cleveland County, is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday.After finishing fourth in the Class 2A South Region Tournament, the Rison Lady Wildcats' season came to a close Tuesday evening when they were defeated by Quitman, 58-22, in...
