QUITMAN - The Rison Wildcats' 4x100 relay team came within 1/100th
of a second of claiming the Class 2A State Champion but came up just short in a photo finish to the Fordyce Redbugs in the Class 2A State Track meet held last Tuesday at Quitman High School.
The relay team of Bradyn Dupuy, Za'Kyler Walker, DJ Kines and Trevion Wainright also finished second with a time of 45.41 secs. compared to the Redbugs' winning time of 45.40 secs.
Both teams also finished first and second, respectively, Region 8 Tournament the week before at Gurdon, and both had quicker times at the state meet. Fordyce clocked in at 46.19 secs. at the district meet while Rison finished second with a time of 46.21 secs.
The Wildcats also qualified to compete in five individual events at the Class 2A State Meet: DJ Kines was sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.15 secs.
Za'Kyler Walker was seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.79 secs., and was ninth in the long jump with a distance of 17 ft., 2.5 ins.
Trey Ballard was seventhn in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.76 secs.
James Mitchell was ninth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.80 secs.
