Rison Will Delay Kickoff to 8 p.m.

RISON - With a high temperature expected to reach above 100 degrees again on Friday, the Cleveland County School District announced Tuesday that it was delaying the start of the Rison Wildcats' first football game of the season to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25. The Wildcats are scheduled to host the Class 4A Dumas Bobcats for the 2023 season opener at George Walker Field of Champions. Gates to the stadium will open at 6:15 p.m. with kickoff at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the gate only. The two teams were originally scheduled to start the game at 7 p.m. A community pep rally to kick off Rison's football season will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at the courthouse. Woodlawn Scrimmage Meanwhile, the Woodlawn School District will hold its Black-and-White scrimmage game as originally scheduled at 7:30 p.m. at the Carl Jones Sports Complex. There will also be a "Meet the Bears" event starting at 6:30 p.m. before the scrimmage. That event will include introduction of the pee wee, junior high and high school football players and cheerleaders. Gates to the Carl Jones Sports Complex will be open at 6:00 pm and the team introductions will start at 6:30. The introductions will be followed by the Black/White scrimmage. Admission will be water, sports drink, or cash donations. Proceeds will benefit the Woodlawn football and cheer teams. AAA Advisory On Monday, the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) issued an "excessive heat warning" in anticipation of this week's high temperatures. "Many teams are scheduling practice before school or at night," the AAA statement read. "We understand the inconvenience of shifting practice times but the forecast indicates that the wet bulb globe readings will prohibit outdoor workouts and practices during normal practice times."
