DISTANT MEMORY NOW - Icicles dangle from the edge of awnings in the downtown area of Rison last Thursday and Friday after Cleveland County was hit with a polar cold front last week. A round of light freezing rain, sleet and snow fell from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning, coating roadways and roof tops in ice. After the sun came out Wednesday afternoon, much of that frozen precipitation melted and froze again overnight to form the icicles. Temperatures bounced back into the 70s by Tuesday.

Local Schools, Businesses Close As Cold Front Leads to Icy Roads

RISON - A polar cold front that plunged temperatures below the freezing mark for more than two days led to icy road conditions that forced local schools and businesses to close last Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Story Time Begins March 5 at Library

Local Students Named To ASU Honors Lists

JONESBORO – Students on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists for the fall 2024 semester at Arkansas State University have been announced. The lists recognize undergraduate students who achieved the highest grade-point averages while completing a minimum of 12 credit hours of study.

Parker Named To SACC Dean’s List

EL DORADO — South Arkansas Community College has released its President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List for the fall 2024 term.To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must have a grade-point average of between 3.0 and 3.75 for the fall semester, and be classified as full-time.
