Jefferson Co. Identifies Body as Kingsland Man

PINE BLUFF - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division announced Monday that it had identified the body of man found in the Arkansas River as Dennis Dees, 53, of Kingsland.

World War II Quilt To Be Preserved; Vets Sought

RISON - It’s 1944 and World War II has passed what would be the midpoint of the conflict. The Home Demonstration Clubs in Cleveland County wanted to do their part to support the war effort so they decided to make a quilt featuring the names of all the local people serving in the armed services.

School Lunches for August 28 - September 1

Rison Elementary Monday - chicken spaghetti or chicken sandwich. Tuesday - beef nachos or hamburger. Wednesday - sloppy joes or bird dog. Thursday - chicken nuggets or mini corndogs. Friday - pizza, pizza and sidekicks.

RUSSELLVILLE - Sixteen students, including Rison's Alli Beth King, will represent Arkansas Tech University on its 2023-24 dance team. The ATU dance team performs at home football, volleyball and basketball games. They also appear at a variety of additional community functions and campus events.

Local Radio Club Receives Grant To Provide Classes

Cleveland County Hamsters (CCH), an amateur radio club, has received a grant from the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) to offset the costs of presenting classes about the uses of all types of radio.

Walk Across Arkansas Registration Begins Aug. 28

LITTLE ROCK - Registration for the fall Walk Across Arkansas, an eight-week, group-based exercise program from the Cooperative Extension Service, will open Aug. 28 at walk.uada.edu/walk/ The competition starts Sept. 11 and ends on Nov. 5. Teams have up to 30 members.
