Local Government Offices Closed Monday

RISON - State offices along with the Cleveland County Courthouse and Rison City Hall will be closed Monday, Feb. 20, in observance of the Presidents Day holiday. All offices are scheduled to open for normal business hours beginning Tuesday, Feb. 21.

County Tax Books Will Open March 1

RISON - Cleveland County Tax Collector Patti Wilson has announced that the books for 2022 personal and real property taxes will be open beginning March 1. She noted that the 2022 tax statements could be delayed due circumstances beyond her office's control.

School Lunches for February 20-24

Menu for February 20-24 Rison Elementary Monday - NO SCHOOL. Tuesday - chicken tenders or hamburger. Wednesday - Chicken Drumstick w/mashed potatoes or chicken sandwich. Thursday - Chicken Nuggets or Hot Dog. Friday - Pizza Pizza and sidekicks. Rison High School Monday - NO SCHOOL.

Food Pantry Sat. at Macedonia MBC

RISON - Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, located on Hwy. 35 South, will open its Food Pantry Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The church holds its food pantry the third Saturday of each month.  

Cane Creek NWTF Banquet Feb. 25

STAR CITY - The Cane Creek Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation-Star City, Arkansas is hosting their 26th annual banquet and auction at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023. The event will be held at the Star City Civic Center with doors opening at 6 p.m.

Wood Workshop Next Week in Rison

RISON - The Cleveland County Extension Office will host a Woodworking Basics Workshop Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pioneer Village, 200 Yaney Street in Rison. An additional workshop is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 8 a.m. to Noon if needed.

Roberts Seeking Planning Comm. For City of Rison

RISON - Mayor Charles Roberts told the Rison City Council Monday night that he would like to start a planning commission that will begin looking at ways to grow the city, especially within the residential sector.

Kingsland Woman Killed at Crossing

KINGSLAND - A train/automobile accident resulted in one fatality last Friday, Feb. 10 at the Maple Street crossing in Kingsland, according to local officials. While the accident remains under investigation with the Arkansas State Police, Sgt.
