Rison City Council Approves Loans For Water Lines

RISON - The Rison City Council approved two loans that are part of a $3.3 million package to replace the city's aging water lines during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night.Mayor Charles Roberts said the city council approved one loan for $450,595.50 that will be repaid with revenue generated through the water department. The term on the loan will expire in June 2047.After Act 605 forced public water departments to raised their rates to meet expenses, Roberts said the city water department is now generating enough money to repay the loan.In addition to that loan, Rison also received a "forgivable" loan of more than $1.3 million that the city will not have to pay back.Both loans are behind combined with an existing grant awarded to the city two years to replace water lines. Roberts said the city will have about $3.3 million overall to work with. He hopes construction will begin in early 2025. ...
