Excavation Begins For Dollar General Store at Kingsland

KINGSLAND - After experiencing some delays with acquiring the property, construction on the new Dollar General store at Kingsland is now officially underway and a corporate spokesperson said it could be completed by winter 2024, pending no major issues during the construction process. A crew began clearing the land at the intersection of Hwy. 79 and Hwy. 189 across from the Kingsland School. While Dollar General provided 16670 Hwy. 79 as the official address for the new store, customers will be accessing the new business through an entrance along Hwy. 189 (First Street) just south of the Hwy. 79 intersection. "At this time, a store opening is slated for winter 2024, but understand that construction progress may alter this date," Dollar General's corporate headquarters in Goodlettsville, Tenn., stated in an email o the Herald. "Our customers are at the center of all that we do, and meeting customers' needs is Dollar General's top priority when choosing store locations," the correspondence said. "In selecting store sites, we take a number of factors into consideration, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customers' price, value and selection needs. We further strive to provide convenience for customers who may not have affordable nearby retail options." According to the Dollar General email, the store will employ about six to 10 people, depending on the individual needs of the store. The corporate office encouraged anyone who may be interested in working at the store to apply for available positions online at www.dollargeneral. com/careers. The removal of trees and brush from the property began last week. The excavation of the site brings to an end what turned out to be a long ordeal to get the land purchased.
