LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) has announced that the “Tax Free Weekend” will begin at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 1 and continue through 11:59 p.m. Aug. 2.
Shoppers will not pay the state’s 6.5 percent sales tax on all qualified items during this period. Local sales tax will also not apply.
In addition to on-site purchases, online purchases qualify if the item is shipped to Arkansas. The item may arrive anytime, but the online transaction must take place Aug. 1-2.
“This holiday provides a great opportunity to save money on back-to-school shopping,” said DFA Secretary Jim Hudson. “However, we want to be sure Arkansans are aware of the broader savings available. For example, a business planning on upgrading its laptops or tablets can find significant savings this weekend. Overall, this is an opportunity for Arkansans to save money on clothing, electronics, school and office supplies, and much more.”
The tax-free exemption applies to school supplies, many electronics, clothing less than $100, and clothing accessories/equipment less than $50.
