RISON - From a new superintendent taking over for the Cleveland County School District to record-breaking attendance at the Rison in the Fall Festival, there were some big stories over the final six months of 2023.

Quorum Court Will Meet This Monday

RISON - The Cleveland County Quorum Court voted last month to move its January meeting to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the Hall-Morgan Veterans Building in Rison. The quorum court usually meets the first Monday of each month.

Trash Pick Up To Run Regular Routes Over Holidays

RISON - Cleveland County Treasurer Angie Kimsey has announced today Big Smith Waste Services will run their regular pick-up routes over the holidays, including Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25. Kimsey said everyone in the county should put their cans out as they usually do each week.

First Baptist Plans Revival Dec. 27-29

RISON - First Baptist Church in Rison will be hosting a “Old Year Out and New Year In” revival Dec. 27-29 with Rev. Bobby Young, pastor of New Life Missionary Baptist Church at Rison, serving as the evangelist. Services will begin at 7 p.m. each night from Wednesday, Dec. 27, through Saturday,Dec.

Rison City Council Moves Jan. Meeting

RISON - The January meeting of the Rison City Council has been moved to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Rison City Hall, Mayor Charles Roberts has announced.

Rison Methodist Food Pantry Dec. 30

RISON - RISON - Rison United Methodist Church will be hosting a food pantry from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 30. The food pantry is typically held the fourth Saturday of each month, but is changing dates for the month of December due to the holidays.

​​​​​​​Transfer Station Resumes Saturday Operations at Rison, To Close Extended Days for Holidays

RISON - The Cleveland County Solid Waste Transfer Station on Hwy. 79 at Rison has resumed its Saturday hours, County Judge Jimmy Cummings has announced. The transfer station will be open the following hours: Monday: 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Tuesday: 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesday: 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Poll Workers Needed For 2024 Elections

RISON - The Cleveland County Election Commission is hiring poll workers for the upcoming 2024 elections. Potential workers earn $50 for on-the-job training, plus $11 per hour during early voting and election day. Election dates are Feb. 19March 5 and Oct. 21-Nov. 5.
