The Woodlawn Bears and Lady Bears both advanced to the Class 2A state championship games after semifinal wins over Riverside on Saturday at Palestine-Wheatley High School. The Bears edged defending champion Riverside 3-2 on a late RBI double by Hollis Holderfield and will face Palestine-Wheatley in the baseball final Thursday at Majestic Park in Hot Springs. Woodlawn enters with a 28-6 record and seeks its 10th state baseball title. The Lady Bears defeated Riverside 8-4 to reach their second-ever softball final, where they will meet Tuckerman. Woodlawn softball enters at 29-6 after strong pitching and key postseason wins, including a previous victory over Tuckerman this season.
