County Judge Donald Triplett told the Cleveland County Quorum Court that the county is no longer accepting used tires at its solid waste transfer station at Rison after a regional disposal program ran out of funding. The issue began after the closure of the Jefferson County Tire and Waste facility due to ADEQ compliance problems. The Southeast Arkansas Solid Waste Management District temporarily used other companies for tire transport and recycling, but funds have now been exhausted. Individuals and tire shops will not have to cope with how to get rid of used tires on their own. The quorum court also refused to pay for the tires already in the bin at the transfer station, stating it is the responsibility of Get Rid of It of American, which had the contract for disposing of the used tires.
