NORTH LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Activities Association released its “tentative” conference assignments for baseball and softball last Friday with both local high schools seeing some new opponents for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 athletic cycle.The AAA announced that the new cycle will be the first with the new competitive equity factor that is calculated every two years as well as the implementation of Class 4A changing to eight member conferences in both baseball and softball. Both of those changes were voted on and approved by the AAA member schools at last summer’s governing body meeting.Rison High School will be competing in Class 3A for all sports in the next two-year cycle. Rison competed in Class 3A for football and Class 2A for the other sports for the past two-year cycle that concluded with the end of the 2023-24 school year.In baseball and softball, Rison will be competing in the 8-3A with DeWitt, Drew Central, Dumas, Helena Central, Lake Village and McGehee. The same schools make up the 8-3A basketball league as well.Woodlawn will remain in the 8-2A conference for the next cycle but the league has expanded to nine teams. In addition to Woodlawn, the conference will include Fordyce, Gurdon, Hampton, Junction City, Magnet Cove, Ouachita, Parkers Chapel and Poyen.
