RISON - The Rison Junior Wildcats picked up their first victory of the season following a back-and-forth battle with the Palestine-Wheatley Junior Patriots that was decided in overtime at George Walker Field of Champions.Both teams started slow, with the Junior Wildcats having an opportunity to score before the end of the first quarter when a Deion Jones run was stopped short of the goal line on fourthand-goal from the 3 yard line.Both teams traded three-andouts with the Wildcats holding the Patriots to another three-andout before an interception ended another promising drive with 44.9 seconds remaining until halftime.Palestine-Wheatley drove into Rison territory before Adron Cooper fumbled the ball on the 18-yard line with 11.9 seconds remaining until halftime, leading to Rison's Blake Snellings recovered the ball for the Wildcats Both teams traded multiple possessions in the third quarter before the Patriots put the game's first points on the board when Cooper scored from four yards out with 4:45 remaining in the game. Cooper was stopped short on the two-point conversion when Rowdy Phillips wrapped him up short of the goal line.The Junior Patriots attempted an onside kick that sailed out of bounds. Rison answered the P-W score just two plays later on a 42yard run by Payne Prescott with 3:53 remaining in the game.
