10  YEARS  AGODECEMBER  10,  2014Supt. Dudley Hume showed the Woodlawn School Board Monday night some ideas he has picked up for a new "fitness trail" that will be built somewhere on the Woodlawn campus using a $150,000 grant. The Woodlawn School District was informed recently that it was one of 35 programs from more than 200 statewide applicants selected to receive a grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas. The grants are used to develop facilities and programs that encourage healthier lifestyles.Rison was one of 32 communities across the state to be recognized as an "Emerging Community" by the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention during its 2014 Celebration Event held last Friday at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock. The Emerging Community designation is part of the "Growing Healthy Communities" campaign and recognizes communities that are beginning to take the first steps toward implementing programs or practices that promote healthier lifestyles within their respective communities. Rison was recognized for the Rison Community Garden and the Rison Farmers Market, both of which were created using grant money.The 2014 Cleveland County Christmas Parade was well attended last Thursday night in Rison, and organizers are already considering ways to strengthen participation in the parade next year.20  YEARS  AGODECEMBER  15,  2004Charleston, which had held 11 opponents scoreless during the season, including all four of their playoff foes leading up to the championship game, was no match for a determined Rison squad, as the Wildcats posted a 30-15 victory over the Tigers for the school's 8th state football title before a crowd of 6,457 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock Saturday night.
