10 YEARS AGO JULY 15, 2015 Gateway Bank, formerly The Bank of Rison, moved into their new building over the weekend and officially opened their new location at the northeast corner of Main and Second streets in downtown Rison. Amber Offutt is manager for the bank here. The fate of the old bank building at the southeast corner of Main and Second streets still remains unknown.While some year-end expenses still have to be calculated, Superintendent Dudley Hume told the Woodlawn School Board Monday night that the district will likely have more than $100,000 in the general fund to carry over into the new school year.Dollar General Corporation has confirmed that it intends to establish two new stores in Cleveland County - a new larger store at Rison to replace the one at the north end of Main Street, and a new store along Hwy. 63 on the eastern side of the county.Congressman Bruce Westerman, Republican of Hot Springs, told a crowd of about 80 people Saturday gathered at the New Edinburg Community Center for the Cleveland County Republican Party's Lincoln-Reagan Day Luncheon, that Washington, D.C., has the 'wrong focus' and that Congress is ignoring the nation's most pressing problems. Westerman said Congress spends much of its energy and focus haggling over specific issues rather than taking a big picture approach to where the country is headed, especially in regards to its finances.20 YEARS AGO JULY 13, 2005 Cleveland County will not be receiving quite as many voting machines as previously believed, but the county should still be able to avoid any significant costs in meeting a new federal voting law. A representative of the Secretary of State's office, which is disbursing the money to counties to help them meet the new federal voting law, said each county was allocated a budget based on the number of registered voters.
