Grand Slam Powers Genoa Central Past Lady Wildcats

Genoa Central defeated Rison 11-1 in five innings in the Class 3A Region 4 Tournament, highlighted by Brooklyn Cox’s grand slam in a six-run fourth inning. Rison briefly tied the game at 1-1 in the second when Claire Socia doubled in Mackenzie King, but that was the Lady Wildcats’ only hit. Genoa regained the lead in the third and then pulled away late, adding three more runs in the fifth to trigger the run rule. Rison, which finished 7-14, used three pitchers, while Genoa capitalized on walks and timely hitting to secure the win.
