Harrell Wilson of Staves community to Run for State Senate

Harrell Wilson of the Staves community, a Republican, announced his candidacy for the District 1 State Senate seat left vacant by the resignation of Ben Gilmore of Crossett on Friday to join the Attorney General’s Office. The district includes all of Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, and Cleveland counties and parts of Drew, Grant, Jefferson, and Grant counties. He is president of the Cleveland County School Board and serves on the AgHeritage Board of Directors. Wilso operates a family-owned hardwood sawmill and farms pine and hardwood timber. His announcement included endorsements from Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Attorney General Tim Griffin and Lt. Governor Leslie Rutledge. Harrell and his wife, Holley, have three sons and two granddaughters. They are members of Rison Church of Christ, where Harrell serves as an elder.
