WOODLAWN - Woodlawn Coach Doug Means has announced there will be a schedule change for both the Woodlawn Bears and Junior Bears for upcoming season.
Means said he learned last week after the Herald's annual Cleveland County Football tabloid had gone to press that Augusta will not be fielding a varsity football team this season but will field a junior high team. The two teams were scheduled to meet Sept. 4 at Woodlawn.
Augusta, a member of the eight-man East Conference, did not field a varsity team last year but was expected to have one this year. Means said he and the other teams on the Red Devils' 2926 schedule learned about the cancellation last week.
However, Means said Augusta is still fielding a junior high team and the Junior Bears will play the Junior Red Devils as scheduled on Sept. 4.
As a replacement game, Means said Rose Bud has agreed to come to play on Friday, Sept. 11, at the Carl Jones Sports Complex. He said the junior teams will play at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity teams at 7 p.m.
Rose Bud and Woodlawn have squared off several times in eight-man football. The Bears kn0cked off the Ramblers 42-24 last year at Rose Bud to give Means his first win at Woodlawn.
