Woodlawn Looks To Break Skid Against Brinkley This Friday

WOODLAWN - Woodlawn will be looking to break a fourgame skid against Brinkley this Friday night when the Bears host the Tigers for a showdown with a team that is quickly shaping up to perhaps be the best team from the eight-man North Conference. Brinkley, after finishing second last year and advancing to the eight-man semifinals, is off to a 2-0 start this year with backto- back blowout victories, hammering Marvell-Elaine, 44-8, in the opener on Aug. 26 and then shutting out Class 3A Rose Bud, 40-0, last Friday night at home. The Tigers return five starters on both offense and defense from a team that finished 6-4. Brinkley’s final victory was a 22-8 win over Woodlawn in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers lost to eventual state champion Strong, 44-22, in the eight-man semifinals the following week. Among those returning starters for the Tigers is All-Conference quarterback Mitchell Hicks, who hit touchdown passes of 21 and 58 yards against the Bears last year. Overall, the Tigers are both large and fast. Hicks and running back Jeremiah Harris both tip the scales at more than 200 lbs., weighing in at 201 and 225 respectively. Hicks and running back Sylvester Anderson both possess 4.6 speed in the 40. Up front, Brinkley has linemen that range from 225 to 275 lbs. ...
