90 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 15, 1933 After a search, covering practically all of Tuesday night and part of Wednesday of last week, John Eastman, aged tramp, who was believed to have been robbed and probably killed near here, was found four miles north of town unharmed with all of his money in his pockets. He was carried to Pine Bluff by Sheriff Jno. E. Smith, and from there he took a train to parts unknown. At the Royal Theater in Rison on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, will be the nights for white people, and there will be a matinee every Saturday afternoon starting at 2:30. There will be two shows every Saturday night for the benefit of those who cannot see the first show, unless there is an extra long picture showing, and then it will not be shown but once. Shows for the colored people will be on Monday and Wednesday nights. The management hopes there will be no objection to showing to the colored people, and also they assure all of a clean and sanitary theater. Admission is 10 cents and 25 cents. G.P. McCann is manager. The blizzard releases its grip on Cleveland County, as zero temperatures prevail here for the first time in three years. The second annual Father-and-Son banquet, sponsored by the Smith-Hughes vocational class and the Boy Scouts of Woodlawn High School, was given at the school auditorium Saturday night. Winfrey Norton, president of the Woodlawn F.F.A. chapter, presided as toastmaster. 80 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 17, 1943 Execution of Henry Thompson, Rison negro, which was set for last Friday morning, was stayed by action of the Arkansas Supreme Court late Thursday on an appeal to the court by attorneys for Thompson. The death penalty was given to Thompson by a Cleveland Circuit Court jury on January 8 for the murder of Mrs. Harry Veteto near Rison on December 23, 1942.
