10 YEARS AGO JUNE 12, 2013 The Kingsland Post Office, in conjunction with the City of Kingsland, held a reception last Wednesday morning to celebrate the launch of a new stamp and cancellation stamp honoring Kingsland native Johnny Cash, the country singing star. A largescale celebration was held the same day at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Students entering the sixth grade at the Rison campus this upcoming school year will be under the supervision of the high school administration following a restructuring approved Monday night by the Cleveland County School Board. Supt. Johnnie Johnson recommended to the board that the sixth grade at Rison go to departmental instruction this year and be grouped with the seventh and eighth grade in the south wing of the high school building. Johnson said the move will allow greater flexibility of existing staff, ease overcrowding in the classroom and make it easier to implement the new standards set up by the Common Core Initiative. Johnson said the sixth grade at Kingsland will not make the move to the Rison campus, but will remain on the Kingsland campus. The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department reports that it has received three calls recently from residents in the area about seeing a bear, including a location near Calmer and also at the south edge of Rison. The City of Rison and FBT Bank & Mortgage paid tribute to Rison native and NFL player Tyrell Johnson at the conclusion of his skills development camp held this past Saturday at Wildcat Field in Rison. A meeting to organize a farmers' market for Rison will be held tomorrow following some inquiries from interested persons. While produce will be a primary focus, the market can also include booths for local crafts and such. 20 YEARS AGO JUNE 18, 2003 U.S. District Judge James M.
