Last week's Glimpse From the Past drew some attention from readers as to the identification of the young ladies at the Book Fair. We received a little assistance on that, and hopefully we have them identified correctly: Evelyn Wilson, Rebecca Austin, Shirley Jones and Deborah Willis, and the three taller girls, left to right, are Sandra Powers, Linda Adams and Melinda Johnson Berry, all from Woodlawn or Rison. Please, accept our apology if not correct. 10 YEARS AGO AUGUST 14, 2013 Officials on the county and city levels continue to make the switch from the Democratic party to Republican, as most express their views on social issues as the primary factor in the decision to change parties. Open houses are scheduled Thursday at schools in Cleveland County, as classes for the 201314 term are set to begin next Monday. Woodlawn High School will be implementing a new driver's education program following action by the board, which also officially hired Zach Branch as the school's new head football coach Monday night. Branch succeeds former coach Ray Sessions, who resigned the position in July. Branch, who joined the staff at Woodlawn two years ago, is the fifth head coach for Woodlawn over the past six years. The board of education of the Cleveland County School District voted to raise the price of an adult school lunch during its regular monthly meeting Monday night. The price for an adult lunch will go from $3.10 to $3.25. In other business, Supt. Johnnie Johnson told the board that he received no bids for a house located next to Kingsland School that the district is trying to sell. This was a second attempt to get bids on the house, which once served as the superintendent's office for the Kingsland School District. After Kingsland merged with the Rison School District, the house was no longer used for a school office and it was converted back into a house and put up for rent. Johnson said the house needed repairs...
