10 YEARS AGO NOVEMBER 20, 2013 The Woodlawn School Board unanimously approved giving a $350 one-time, non-recurring payment to all employees during its regular monthly meeting Monday night. The $350 payments for each employee will cost the district $33,310. In addition, the board also approved the district's Facilities Master Plan that includes essentially the same projects on its previous plan.
The Kingsland City Council unanimously approved a motion Monday night to no longer accept cash payments for water bills at city hall due to safety concerns. Recorder/Treasurer Leann Huntley said the move comes after a break-in at city hall in October resulted in some cash payments being stolen from the city. The no-cash policy is only for city hall, and that customers who want to pay with cash can still do so at Centennial Bank branch in Fordyce.
Using a ground attack for all of its 36 offensive plays that netted 537 yards, Rison averaged a whopping 15 yards per snap, as the Wildcats pounded the Mountainburg Dragons, 52-6, in the opening round of the Class 2A state football playoffs at Mountainburg last Friday night. The Wildcats, 8-3, will travel to Magnet Cove this Friday for a second round playoff game against the Panthers.
The Woodlawn Lady Bears finished 7th overall and the Rison Lady Wildcats were 14th at the Class 1A/2A Girls State Cross Country Meet held in the infield at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.
20 YEARS AGO NOVEMBER 26, 2003 The Cleveland County Quorum Court is expected to look into ways of possibly giving county employees a pay raise, as it concludes two days of budget meetings today. County employees did not receive a pay raise last year due to budget constraints. The court did not take action on the proposed collection of a half-mill road tax. The halfmill has been on the county books for years, but has not been collected. Some Justices of the Peace wanted to begin collecting the tax this year in order...
