Donald Massey, 91, of White Hall, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
Dee Donald Massey was the middle child born to Elva Mae Burford Massey and Dillard Warren Massey on February 6, 1933 in Cleveland County, Arkansas.
He graduated from Kingsland High School in 1950 and then served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon completion of four years of service, he attended and graduated from Arkansas A&M College (now UAM) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education in 1958.
Don married Barbara Ann Bryant on August 26, 1955 in Bearden, Arkansas. In their 68 years of marriage they raised their children, took care of extended family, traveled overseas, and enjoyed camping with their RV camping clubs.
The Masseys moved to Pine Bluff in 1958. Don retired as power plant supervisor from International Paper Company in 1991 after 33 years of service. He made many friends during his time at the mill. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and enjoyed cooking (except for shrimp!) at the Supervisor's Club events.
During his retirement, he discovered his dream job. He became the dental lab driver and deliverer for his daughter, Donna D. Massey, DDS's dental practice. He was also a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Ed Brown; and his brother and sister-in-law, Travis and Nancy Massey.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara Bryant Massey; his children, Donna Massey Rickels (Ross). Richard Massey (Gail), and Elizabeth Massey Reddin (Scotty): five grandchildren, Jameson Massey (Kelly), Rachael Rickels, Kate Reddin Theodore (Alex), Laura Reddin, and Meredith Reddin; three great-grandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Don's ability to grow or fix virtually anything, his friendliness, quick wit, and willingness to help others will be greatly missed. We will especially miss his delicious homemade pickles.
Graveside service was Monday, June 10, 2024 at Wright Cemetery in Cleveland County near his childhood home.
The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring people at Sheridan Health and Rehab that took care of Don over the last five years of his life. Also, many thanks to Affinity Hospice for the patience and respect
shown to Don and his family during his final illness.
Memorials may be made to Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, 9238 Sulphur Springs Road, Pine Bluff, AR 71603; or Arkansas Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Way, Little Rock, AR 72202.
