Woodlawn Opens Season at Parkers Chapel Friday

WOODLAWN - The Wood‐lawn Bears will be going into their 2022 season opener know‐ing very little about their oppo‐nent. That’s because Parkers Chapel did not exchange tape with Woodlawn of the Trojans’ opener last Thursday against Spring Hill, which won the game 38-22. Woodlawn will travel to Union County to face Parkers Chapel at 7 p.m. Friday. There will be no junior high game since Parkers Chapel is playing 11-man foot‐ball in junior high. “All we know is that they run the true spread and they throw it about 70 percent of the time,” Woodlawn Coach Zach Meyer said of the Trojans. The Trojans went 1-8 last year with their lone victory coming against winless Bearden, 42-24. Parkers Chapel was expected to return seven starters on offense and eight on defense, but some departures over the summer played a role in the school’s late decision to go to eight-man this season. This will be the first of two meetings between the two schools this year. Parkers Chapel, which is playing eightman football as a club sport like the other Class 3A and larger schools, is scheduled to visit Woodlawn on Sept. 23. Meyer admitted that having no film will make it difficult to pre‐pare for the Trojans. “We’ve got to prepare for everything,” he said. “It makes it very difficult.” While Parkers Chapel already has one game under its belt, this will be the first for Woodlawn in 2022. The Bears did have their Black-and-White scrimmage game last Friday, and Meyer said he expects everyone to be available this Friday. He said se‐nior running back/linebacker Landen Booth, who left the sec‐ond half of the scrimmage with a leg injury, is okay and should be able to play this week. ...
