WOODWORKING AT THE PIONEER VILLAGE - Last week, the Cleveland County Extension Service hosted another wood workshop at Rison’s Pioneer Village. The Extension Agents would like to thank to Mr. Keith Gresham for instructing, and Billy and Marty Bowlin for helping. Thanks also to Pioneer Village for use of their facilities and to Hixson Lumber Company for donating the wood. Five students worked hard and had fun doing it. Shumake Retires from Woodlawn School District

WOODLAWN - Janice Shumake has announced her retirement after 30 years of service in education. She completed 20 years of service at Woodlawn School District where she currently serves as a facilitator for Virtual Arkansas distance learning courses.

RISON - John Ed Ashcraft of the Pansy community has announced that he is seeking reelection to the District 3, Position 1 seat on the C&L Electric Cooperative Board of Directors representing Cleveland County and a portion of Dallas County.

State Seeking Public Input On 'Browning' Pine Trees

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Department of Agriculture's Forestry Division (Forestry Division) has released a survey for members of the public to report pine tree discoloration and/or mortality, specifically in southeast Arkansas. The survey can be found at arcg.is/1HyHCu0.

CCSB Approves Classified Pay Raise

RISON - The Cleveland County School Board approved giving classified staff a 50 cent per hour pay raise and approved hiring former Rison High School teacher Angie Hudson as the new Rison Elementary principal during a special meeting held last Thursday at the administration building in Rison.

Dollar General Closing Kingsland Land Sale June 7

KINGSLAND - The company overseeing the land purchase for a new Dollar General store in Kingsland has informed Kingsland Mayor Sharon Crosby that the company expects to close on the property June 7.

Farmers Market Opening Postponed To June 8 in Rison

RISON - Greg Jaggers, the 2023 manager for the Rison Farmers Market, has announced that the opening of the market is being moved to next Thursday, June 8, at the FBT Community Park in downtown Rison due to availability of local produce.

Ceremony Saturday To Dedicate Jacks Memorial

RISON - The Cleveland County Veterans Association will honor the late Staff Sgt. Danny Lee Jacks and all veterans of Cleveland County during a special ceremony this Saturday morning, June 3, at the Cleveland County Veterans Park in Rison. Seating will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Union Cemetery Decoration Day Sunday

RYE - The Union Cemetery at Rye will be having its annual Decoration Day beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 28, at the cemetery. Bring your lunch and flowers to help keep this 85-year celebration alive. Harmony Free Will Baptist Church will be in charge of this year's service.

Taylor, Cash Reunion June 3 at Staves

RISON - The annual Jess and Lottie Cash Taylor's family reunion will be held Saturday, June 3, at the Y (Staves) Community Center. The reunion begins at 10 a.m. and will include a potluck lunch at 12 Noon. All relatives and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend.
