Local Toys for Tots Group Wraps Up Busy July

We had a great month! We kicked off the month by reading two books, Flome the Gnome and Flome the Gnome Counts to Twelve, to kids at the Star City Library. Afterwards, we helped them become authors/illustrators by helping them with creating their own stories.

Hanks, Thompson Place at State 4-H Orama

RISON - Ben Hanks and Madelyn Thompson from the 4-H Homeschool Club competed in the 4-H State Orama in Fayetteville. The two completed in the Illustrated Talks competition. Ben placed second in the horse category. Madelyn placed first in the state in the health category.

KINGSLAND - The man pictured behind Johnny and June Cash in this photo from the Cash Family’s 1994 concert to dedicate the new Kingsland Post Office has been identified as Reginald Kent Lisemby, a son of James Travis and Dorothy Sue (Grice) Lisemby of the New Edinburg area.

UAMS MammoVan in Rison Aug. 13

RISON - The UAMS Mobile MammoVan will provide on-site screening mammograms at Rison Pharmacy's old location at 300 Pine Street, Wednesday, Aug. 13 beginning at 8 a.m.This is for women age 40 and over that are due for a mammogram. Mammograms are by appointment only.
QUILTS OF VALOR - Four veterans from the Rison area were presented Quilts of Valor during a ceremony Tuesday morning at the Cleveland County Senior Citizens Center. Those receiving the quilts were (left to right ) William Threlkeld, Nadine Young, Thomas Young and John Young. Another veteran scheduled to receive a quilt, Mark Young, was unable to attend.

RISON - Several volunteers stepped up from a community meeting Monday night to begin an effort to assess the commercial properties available in Rison and then actively recruit businesses to fill them.

State Police Reveal Accident Victims

RISON - Arkansas State Police identified the victims of last week's fatal accident near Woodlawn as Justin Owen, 38, of Pine Bluff, and Joshua Dicky, 36, of Star City.Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, Jerry Wayne Dicky, 61, of College Station, Texas, was transported to the hospital.
