Superintendent Davy King announced at Monday’s Cleveland County School District Facilities Master Plan hearing that the district’s proposed new gym is now next in line to receive state partnership funding, with a secure entrance for Rison Elementary following close behind. The gym, estimated at $12 million, is the subject of a 6-mill tax increase on Tuesday’s ballot. The state has approved more than $2.7 million for the gym and $138,000 for the secure entrance, pending available funds. King noted previous partnership support for the 2024 cafeteria addition and outlined other future, mostly self-funded projects included in the district’s six-year master plan.
