Hoyt Hits Grand Slam in Lady Bears Win

WOODLAWN - Jaci Hoyt hit a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the fourth as the Woodlawn Bears powered their way past the Monticello Ladie Billies, 8-0, Tuesday behind a two-hit, 13-strikeout performance by pitcher Laci Rauls.Woodlawn was clinging to a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Karsyn Chastain singled, Kaylee Misho reached on an error and Paisley Sharf walked to load the bases with no outs. However, the next two batters were retired on a fielder’s choice and a fly out to leave the bases still loaded without a runner reaching home.Facing a 1-2 count at the plate, Hoyt launched a shot over the centerfield fence to give the Lady Bears to clear the bases and give them some breathing room at 6-0.Woodlawn added two more runs in the fifth when Molly Shelby had an RBI single and Misho scored on a passed ball.Rauls, meanwhile, kept the Lady Billies at bay with one of her strongest performances of the season. In addition to holding Monticello to two hits and retiring 13 on strikes, she also did not issue a walk.The Lady Bears finished with 10 hits. Kendall Tooke and Chastain had two apiece while Hoyt, Rauls, Misho, Sharf, Shelby and Anniston Wright had one each.Woodlawn improved to 6-2 overall with Tuesday’s win.Woodlawn 14, Bauxite 4WOODLAWN - Woodlawn plated 10 runs in its final two frames as the Lady Bears overcame an early three-run deficit to put away the Bauxite Lady Miners, 14-4, in five innings Monday at Lady Bear Field.Bauxite used a double, a dropped third strike and a single to build a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.Laci Rauls’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning made it 3-1 before the Lady Bears took the lead in the third.
