MAGNET COVE - Woodlawn scored seven runs in an explosive first inning as the Bears opened 8-2A conference play with a 12-2 win over the Magnet Cove Panthers in five innings Monday afternoon at Magnet Cove.After the lead-off batter struck out, Parker Arnold doubled and Hollis Holderfield reached on an error to put two before another strikeout for the second out. That’s when the scoring parade began.Ethan Saeler followed with a singe that scored two runs, and after Gavin Edmonds was hit by a pitch, Ty Motes drove in another run with a hit. Tyner Burris then singled for two more runs, and after Tyler French drew a walk, Cash Hargis hit a double into left that rang up two more to make it 7-0.The Panthers answered with a couple of runs in the bottom of the first, but the Bears came back with two more runs in both the second and third innings before Arnold’s two-out single in the fourth added a run to invoke the 10-run rule.Woodlawn was very aggressive on the base paths, stealing 11 bases against the Panthers. Edmonds and Mark Adams stole two apiece.Motes picked up the pitching victory after holding Magnet Cove to four hits and one walk over all five innings. He had eight strikeouts.Arnold topped the Woodlawn batting order going 3-for-4 while Motes had two hits.
