Wildcats Blank Pirates

RISON - Mason Weaver pitched a one-hitter and the Rison Wildcats used a quick start to blank the Drew Central Pirates, 10-0, in five innings in an 8-3A matchup last Thursday at Wildcat Field.It was the Wildcats’ third straight conference win as they improved to 6-9 overall and 5-2 in conference play after Monday’s forfeit victory from Helena.Rison scored nine of its 10 runs over the first two innings.Weaver’s grounder in the bottom of the first drove in the first run of the game before a single by Brayden Terry, a walk to CJ Edwards and Easton Billings being hit by a pitch loaded the bases with two out. The Pirates then had an error on Brody Howard’s fly to left, allowing all three runners to score to give the ‘Cats a 4-0 lead.The Wildcats added five more runs in the second. Kyson Walker drew a walk to start the inning, stole second and then scored on a single by Trent Southerland. Noah Matheson and Weaver followed with two more singles to load the bases.  A fielder’s choice by Terry brought in one run, and Edwards and Billings then had back-to-back hits to drive in two more. Logan McGarity’s single added another to make it 9-0.Rison invoked the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth when Walker reached on an error to lead-off the inning and then scored on Southerland’s follow-up single into left.Weaver had an efficient day on the mound, giving up just one hit and one walk over five innings with one strikeout.Every Wildcat in the batting order finished with at least one hit with Howard stroking a double. Southerland finished with two hits and two RBIs....
