Lady Bears Rout Drew Central; Clinch 8-2A With PC Victory

MONTICELLO - Jaci Hoyt and Molly Shelby both hit three-run homeruns as the Woodlawn Lady Bears made quick work of the Drew Central Lady Pirates with a 13-1 victory in five innings Tuesday at Monticello.Woodlawn had four runs in the opening frame off an RBI single by Laci Rauls and Shelby’s three-run dinger.After Kendall Tooke doubled in a run in second, the Lady Bears broke it open with seven runs in the third. Shelby started it with a double before scoring on Addison Holland’s single. Kaylee Misho drove in another run and a ground out by Maeley Simmons added one more. Hoyt followed with her three-run bomb and Shelby singled in one more to make it 12-1.Hoyt scored Woodlawn’s final run on a wild pitch.Shelby, a freshman, struck out 11 in getting the complete-game victory. She held the Lady Pirates to three hits with one walk.The Lady Bears moved to 19-4 overall with the non-conference win. Woodlawn wrapped up the 8-2A regular season championship with a 7-0 record after beating Parkers Chapel on Monday.Woodlawn 12, Parkers Chapel 1PARKERS CHAPEL - The Woodlawn Lady Bears won the 8-2A regular season conference championship Monday with a dominating 12-1 road win over the Parkers Chapel Lady Trojans.Woodlawn finished with a 7-0 record, and earned the no. 1 seed heading into the 8-2A District Tournament that begins next Thursday, April 30, at Gurdon.By winning the regular season title, the Lady Bears  get a bye to the district semifinals and therefore automatically qualify for the Class 2A Region 4 Tournament.Woodlawn pounded Parkers Chapel with 17 hits in a game that ended by the 10-run rule after the fifth inning.The hits started early as the Lady Bears plated four runs in the top of the first, all coming with two out.
