WOODLAWN - Laci Rauls struck out 19 and gave up just one hit as the Woodlawn Lady Bears knocked off the Class 3A McGehee Lady Owls, 5-1, in a non-conference tune-up game last Thursday at Lady Bear Field.Woodlawn finished the regular season with a 22-4 overall record and 7-0 mark in 8-2A conference play. The Lady Bears are the top seed in this week’s District Tournament at Gurdon this week. The Lady Bears will play in the first semifinal game 4 p.m. Friday. By making the semifinals, they have already locked up a berth to the Region 4 Tournament next week at Murfreesboro.The lone hit that Rauls gave up against McGehee was a homerun to Avery Abbott in the sixth inning. The only other baserunners the Lady Owls had was a lead-off walk to start the game and an error in the fourth.Woodlawn took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jaci Hoyt was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then scored a Rauls’ ground out.The Lady Bears added three more runs in the second off a RBI single by Anniston Wright, a ground out by Hoyt and a hit by Kendall Tooke, pushing Woodlawn’s lead to 4-0.Karsyn Chastain’s double set up the Lady Bears’ fifth run when Kaylee Misho’s ground out scored Addison Holland to make it 5-0.Woodlawn had six hits in the game with Chastain going 2-for-3 with a double.
